People Against the Government Shutdown

So many articles and public opinion is available on the net against the government shutdown. People are upset, disappointed and some are truly discomforted by this phenomenon. The world's only superpower is being paraded on the news media at home and abroad as a dysfunctional, bickering and polarized nation. And every article I read shifts the blame from one party to another, each filled with obscure facts and self serving agendas.

But one party remains devoid of any blame in this deathly spiral roller coaster of economic and political dishevel this country is on. The party that has all the power, all the control, yet chooses to be on the sidelines as a mere spectator, watching bemusingly as this nation tries to implode upon itself. This party names in its charter every citizen of this country, who have completely forgotten that this government is for the people, from the people and by the people. It is the citizens who need to blame themselves for choosing the representatives who have forgotten their job, the only job they were hired to do, govern the country. Nobody said it was an easy job, nobody said that all things will go as per plan, or that everyone you work with will agree with you, but that is why there are only 535 people elected to govern this nation out of the almost 350 million citizens; because it is a not a job for everyone. The representatives have forgotten what the meaning of that vote is. It is a contract between the citizen and the elected, a contract that stipulates that the representative must do his/her best to uphold the trust bestowed upon him or her; the trust that the representative will put the interest of the people before his/her own, that he/she will fight for our present and our future, that he/she will make the best decisions to further the cause of this country, and that he/she will, under no circumstances, not do his or her JOB!

Shutting the government is a violation of that trust. It is putting in jeopardy this nation and the lives of every countrymen. And the most powerful entity in this country, its people, are relegated to listening to the news media bonanza show of experts and expressing our dissent on blogs and twitter posts. When did the show of dissent move off the streets and to our coaches? Perhaps what this country needs right now is the reawakening of its people, a true show of power through dissent, which demands these elected representatives to either do their job or be fired, one every hour till the government is functional again. Let us gather, the people of this country, under the banner of a single demand from this government of ours, GET BACK TO WORK!
